UK is a great place for events with thousands of people flocking to arenas of various sorts up and down the country. In a recent survey conducted by the Premier League Association the main concern for fans travelling to football stadiums was not whether their team would win but the commute to these locations. Public transport in UK is good but it is not that good that over 80 thousand people depend on it to get to Wembley for example.
If everyone depended on public transport to get to these stadiums, then we will have a big problem. Hence, there is a definite need for people to use their own transport. People who travel to stadiums in their own transport should not be frowned upon as they sometimes are. By using their own transport they ease congestion to a certain extent and in certain cases pay more for their troubles.
To make matters worse the good old local councils make sure that every road that surrounds these stadiums are double yellows with active traffic wardens to make sure no one gets free car parking. One of the reasons for these tight laws is to make sure the residents of the areas are not disturbed but then why build stadias in residential areas?
But that’s a different debate.
The audience and fans of these events need to think before travelling making sure they exactly pinpoint where they will park. Car parks need to be scrutinised for their safety, their closing time and most importantly for some people the walking distance to the stadium.
Car park operators recommend planning ahead of 2-3 days at least. Local councils will suggest even more time fans with a defined plan ease congestion considerably.
